Front-load washer opened up for repair

It's about 29 miles from our place in Parma down to Cuyahoga Falls. We go to both sides of the river, the old streets by the falls and the Northampton end up in the northwest too. That part was its own township until 1986, when it merged with the city.

On the phone, tell us the brand and what the thing is doing. We'll put the parts that usually go bad on that model in the van. Our technician tests it first and then gives you one number for the whole job. If you don't like the number, nothing gets touched.

Well water from Water Works Park

Akron gets its water out of Lake Rockwell. The Falls doesn't, it has its own wells. According to the city's 2025 water report there are 15 of them in Water Works Park, on the south bank of the river. Iron filters come first at the plant. Roughly two thirds of the water then goes through softeners before they blend it back together.

What comes out of your tap is 100 to 130 ppm hard. That's middle of the road. You still get scale, it just takes longer to show up. On a dishwasher that's eight or ten years old there can be white crust all over the spray arms. A front-loader that fills really slow often has a packed inlet screen while the valve itself is fine. We wrote more about mineral buildup in washers and dishwashers if you want the long version.

Once a year turn off both taps, take the hoses off the back of the washer and rinse those little screens. Put a towel down first because there's always a cup of water left in the hose.

Houses built around 1959

Half the houses in the city went up in 1959 or before, going by the Census. That matters more than you'd think once we're standing in front of a broken appliance.

Basement laundry

Lots of these old basements have the washer draining into a standpipe put in for a much slower machine. New pumps move water fast, faster than that pipe takes it. Then it spills over the top and everybody thinks the washer's leaking.

Old outlets

You'll still find two-prong outlets in houses that age, plus kitchens where the fridge shares a circuit with half the counter. So we check the outlet before blaming the appliance. A loose one can make a perfectly good fridge look dead.

Narrow openings

Cabinets back then were framed for skinny refrigerators. Jam a new one in there and it can't breathe at the back. The compressor never really gets a break.

Long vent runs

If the laundry sits in the middle of the basement, the dryer duct might travel a long way to the outside wall. Lint settles in every elbow. Loads take a bit longer each month and nobody notices until it's two cycles.

Our washer repair page goes deeper on drains, and dryer repair covers the heat side.

If you rent your place in the Falls

About a third of households here rent, per the Census survey. A couple of things sorted out early save everybody a second trip.

  1. Look at the leaseUsually it spells out who handles appliance repairs. When that's the owner, have them ring us or pass along their number.
  2. Decide who says yesOur quote goes to whoever's paying. We hold off on ordering anything until that person agrees.
  3. Mention how to get inShared basement laundry, a manager with the keys, a side door nobody uses. Say so and we'll call ahead.

Owners and tenants can check who pays for repairs in a rental first.

Trouble that needs a visit today

Send a request whenever you like, even on Saturday when our vans stay parked. Sunday through Friday the crew works 7 am to 11 pm. If you're in the Falls, a weekday morning call is your best bet for getting someone there that afternoon.

Water spreading in the basement

Close the two water taps behind the machine. Unplug it only if the outlet is dry and easy to reach.

Chest freezer warming

Keep the lid down. Packed full, a freezer holds its cold for a surprisingly long time.

Gas smell by the range

Get everyone out first. From outside, call 911 or your gas company. Ring us after they give the all clear.

Which Cuyahoga Falls ZIP codes do you serve?

We cover 44221 and 44223 on either side of the river. That includes the old Northampton area in the northwest. If your mail carries a different ZIP, give us the street anyway and we'll sort it out.

How far is Cuyahoga Falls from your base?

About 29 miles from Parma. Without traffic that's close to fifty minutes. Morning requests are the easiest ones for us to fit into the same day, so don't wait until dinner to call.

Is Cuyahoga Falls water hard on dishwashers?

Less than it would be, because the city softens part of its well water. Its 2025 report puts finished hardness at 100 to 130 ppm. You'll still see some scale after a few years. Rinse the filter under the lower spray arm monthly and keep rinse aid topped up.

Can you repair a washer in an old basement in the Falls?

Yes, right where it sits. Nobody has to haul anything up the stairs. When water keeps turning up on the floor, we check the standpipe and the drain hose before we blame the pump.

Do you work for Cuyahoga Falls landlords?

We do. Just say who owns the appliance and who okays the price. The quote and the invoice can go straight to the owner or to the property manager instead of the tenant.

What does a repair in Cuyahoga Falls cost?

Honestly it depends on what broke and which part it needs. The technician tests first and then gives one figure covering parts and labor. Veterans and seniors get $30 off. A first visit gets $20 off.

My fridge is in a tight cabinet and runs nonstop. Is it broken?

Maybe not. A fridge boxed in with no gap at the back can't get rid of its heat, so it runs and runs. Pull it out an inch and vacuum the coils. If it still never shuts off after a day, call us and we'll check the fans and the sealed system.
