Medina is about 32 minutes down the road from us. Fridges that quit cooling and washers that won't drain are the usual calls. So is the leak you can't find.

Stainless gas range with six burners and a griddle in a home kitchen

Ask anyone how to find Medina and they'll mention the Square. The Victorian storefronts around Uptown Park went up after the fire of 1870, and the city has spread out from there in every direction since. Houses in town now range from old to brand new, with 1983 as the median.

It's twenty miles from Parma, give or take. A little over half an hour in the van. Nobody likes a second visit, us included. So on the phone we'll pester you a bit about the brand and what it's doing, and whether you can spot the model sticker. Get us that and the part usually rides along.

Medina ZIP codes, and one that doesn't exist

  • 44256street addresses
  • 44258PO boxes only

Every street in the city of Medina falls in 44256. That ZIP also covers a good stretch of the townships around town, and we go there too. 44258 belongs to post office boxes, so we'll need the street when you book.

You may have seen 44158 listed for Medina somewhere online. It isn't a real ZIP code. If a form rejects your address, that's probably why.

Lake Erie water, piped from Avon Lake

Medina doesn't pump its own water. Since July 2002 the city has bought treated Lake Erie water from the Avon Lake plant, up on the lakeshore. The city's 2025 water report doesn't give a hardness number, so we won't make one up.

That same report has a number we like, though. The city dealt with 87 water main leaks in 2025, and the report points out that a steady leak the size of a pen tip can waste over 800 gallons a day. Inside a house, appliances are where those pen-tip leaks usually hide.

Hunting a hidden appliance leak

Water bill jumped for no reason? Floor feels spongy by the sink? Before anybody starts pulling up tile, try this.

  1. Behind the fridgeWalk it out from the wall and find the skinny line that feeds the ice maker. Plastic ones get brittle and split. Water from there can sneak under the floor for months before anybody notices.
  2. Under the dishwasherTwo screws hold the toe panel under the door. Take it off, get on the floor with a flashlight. Rusty streaks or a damp pan? Pump seal or a loose clamp, most likely.
  3. Washer hosesRun your hand down both fill hoses. Feel a bump, like a snake that swallowed an egg? Replace that hose this week.
  4. The meter testNobody running water, nothing on, and you watch the meter for 15 minutes. Dial still creeping? Close the appliance valves one at a time until it stops. Whichever one stops it is your leak.

Found it at the dishwasher? Why a dishwasher leaks covers the usual spots. Fridge? Try refrigerator leaking water.

Old Square houses and newer cul-de-sacs

Medina's housing stock runs from the Victorian center around Uptown Park out to subdivisions built in the last few years. Census data puts the middle at 1983. Each age has its own weak spots.

Older homes in town

Kitchens that were remodeled around old wiring and narrow doorways. We measure before suggesting a bigger fridge, and check the outlet before blaming a new range.

Houses from the 1980s and 1990s

Often on their second set of appliances. Those machines are now 10 to 20 years old. That's when pumps and igniters start asking for attention.

Water on the floor right now

A leak doesn't keep till morning. Hardwood drinks it up and swells, and drywall below goes brown faster than you'd think. Handle the three things below, then pick up the phone.

Close the supply

For the washer, two handles behind it. Fridge and dishwasher lines tend to have a little valve under the sink, or up in the basement joists below the kitchen.

Cut the power

Pull the plug only if you're standing somewhere dry. Otherwise go to the panel and flip its breaker.

Save the floor

Towels down, and a fan on the wet spot. Take a picture of where the water collects, it tells us a lot.

Rentals around Medina

About a third of Medina homes are rented. Tenants are welcome to set up the visit. The price goes to whoever owns the appliance, though. Our wrench stays in the bag until they say yes. Landlords with a few units can just send us the address and the tenant's number.

Restaurants and offices

We work on restaurant refrigeration and ice machines, and on commercial ovens too. Walk-in warming up on a Friday? Ring early and tell us what's in there. We'll book around your service hours.

Medina repair questions

ZIP codes, leaks and cost.

(216) 352-3935

What ZIP codes do you cover in Medina?

All of 44256, which includes the whole city and a lot of the township land around it. 44258 is for PO boxes. 44158 doesn't exist, so ignore it if you see it online.

How far are you from Medina?

About 20 miles from our Parma base, a bit over 30 minutes on a clear road. If your call reaches us by mid-morning on a weekday, a stop later that day is quite possible.

My water bill went up. Could it be an appliance?

Very possibly. Check the fridge water line and the washer hoses first, then watch the meter with every tap off. If the meter still turns, call us or a plumber.

Is Medina water hard on dishwashers?

The city buys Lake Erie water from the Avon Lake plant and doesn't publish a hardness figure in its report. Rinse aid and a monthly filter rinse are good habits either way.

Can you fit a bigger fridge into an older Medina kitchen?

We repair rather than sell, but we'll gladly tell you whether the opening and the doorway can take a larger model before you buy one. Measure the opening at three heights, since old cabinets are rarely square.

Do you repair appliances in rentals?

Yes. We set the visit with the tenant and get the owner's OK on the price before any work.

What does a repair cost in Medina?

The technician tests the machine and then names one total for the part plus labor. Nothing happens until you agree. A $30 discount goes to veterans and seniors. Anyone booking us for the first time gets $20 off, one discount per visit.
