Search for appliance repair in Aurora and you'll mostly get Denver suburbs. We're the other direction entirely. Our base is Parma, 30-some miles west. Aurora, Ohio sits well inside the area we cover. Ring before mid-morning and a same-afternoon slot is a real possibility.

Aurora's mostly owner-occupied. The Census says fewer than one household in five rents, and the median house dates to 1989. Around the historic center by Town Hall you'll find older places, some with basement laundry and modest kitchens. Out toward Walden and Barrington the kitchens get bigger, and so do the appliances in them. We handle both ends of that range, whether that's a no-frills top-loader or a column fridge wearing a custom panel.

One ZIP shared with Reminderville

  • 44202Aurora and Reminderville

Aurora's ZIP is 44202. Reminderville, over the line in Summit County, uses the same one, so the Postal Service counts about 22,000 people on it. We cover both sides of that line.

Streetsboro sits right below Aurora and Twinsburg just west. Solon touches the northwest corner. Up by Geauga Lake, Bainbridge Township is right across the road. We go there too.

Winter's worth a word, too. Cleveland TV forecasters lump the northern half of Portage County into the secondary snowbelt, and Aurora is about as far north in the county as you can get. Low dryer vents get buried. Garage fridges sulk once it's freezing out there. Neither is a reason to panic, just a reason to kick the snow off the vent flap after a storm.

Two water systems, two kinds of buildup

Aurora's water report is unusual because it covers two supplies. One is Cleveland's system, which means Lake Erie water piped out from the city. The other is Portage County's well field on Coit Road, treated and softened at the Shalersville plant. Which one reaches your tap depends on where you live.

So what? Well, it changes what your dishwasher and washer complain about. On lake water I'd bet on chalky film on the glasses if the rinse aid ran dry. On the softened county water there's hardly any scale. Instead the detergent goes nuts and HE washers start flashing suds codes. Can't remember which water you're on? The water department knows, and the bill usually says.

If your dishwasher leaves film and the rinse aid dispenser is empty, fill it before you book a repair. That alone solves a lot of calls.

Built-in fridges and wall ovens

Bigger kitchens usually come with fancier gear. Got some? Good, we like working on it. A couple of details up front make the visit quicker.

Built-in and panel-ready fridges

Most of the time we fix these right in the cabinet. Nobody wants a built-in dragged across the hardwood. Tell us the brand on the phone. Sub-Zero and similar units have their own quirks, covered on our Sub-Zero page.

Double wall ovens

One cavity cold while the other works fine usually comes down to a heating element or its temperature sensor. Sometimes a relay on the control board. Our double oven repair page goes through it.

Gas cooktops in stone

Igniters and spark modules are the common failures. We work from above and below, and we'll pad the counter before anything comes apart.

Undercounter ice makers

Slow ice or none at all often comes down to a clogged filter or a scaled-up water valve. Scale shows up faster on lake water than on softened well water.

Plain old Whirlpool and GE get the same attention, by the way. Veterans and seniors knock $30 off. If it's your first time with us, take $20 off instead, since it's one discount per visit.

Before a technician comes to your Aurora kitchen

  1. Find the model numberOn a built-in fridge, try behind the top grille or up on the ceiling inside. Wall ovens keep theirs on the frame once you open the door.
  2. Write down the errorSnap a picture of whatever the screen shows, letters and all. Half the diagnosis can start right there.
  3. Clear the counterFor cooktop and oven repairs we may need to lift trim. A clear counter lets us put down padding.
  4. Agree the priceTesting comes first and the quote after. You say yes before a single part gets swapped. Ninety days of warranty on the result.

Aurora, Ohio repair questions

Do you serve Aurora, Ohio, not Aurora, Colorado?

Ohio only. From our Parma base it's about 45 minutes. All of 44202 is covered, Reminderville included.

Does a built-in fridge have to come out for a repair?

Usually, yes. Fans and defrost parts come out from the front. Valves and boards usually sit behind the top grille. In the rare case it has to roll out, the floor gets covered and the panels padded.

Why does my HE washer show a suds code in Aurora?

If your house is on the county's softened well water, a normal detergent dose foams too much. Try half the usual amount. If the code keeps returning, we test the pressure switch and drain.

How do I know which water system my house is on?

The city's water report says Aurora is served by both a Cleveland system and a Portage County system. Your water bill or the city's water department can tell you which one feeds your street.

What will an Aurora repair cost me?

Diagnosis comes first. The number we quote after it already includes the part and our time, and you can say no. A built-in part can cost more than a standard one, and you'll see that in the quote before anything is ordered.

Do you fix older homes near the historic center too?

Of course. Around Town Hall the houses are older, with basement laundry and smaller kitchens. Same diagnosis, same pricing, same warranty. Basement washers there get the same drain and vent checks as anywhere else.

My double oven only heats on top. Worth fixing?

Usually. Wall ovens are expensive to replace and the cabinet is cut to fit them. A failed element or sensor in one cavity is a routine repair.

Is it worth calling for an ice maker under the counter?

Often. Those units usually fail at the water valve or the drain pump, and both are fixable. On lake water, scale on the valve screen is a common reason for slow ice. We clean or replace it and check the drain line while we're there.
