Springs and dampers

Inlet valve

Drive belt or coupling
If the motor hums and the basket barely moves, something between them has slipped or split.

Small habits that keep a laundry room washer going
Post a short note above the machines about bulky items. Most breakdowns from overloading start with one king size comforter. Ask whoever cleans the building to leave the lids up overnight so the tubs dry out.

Concrete floors are rarely flat. A washer that rocks on one corner will walk during spin and wear its dampers early, so lock the leveling feet once it sits square.
