Appliance Repair in Wickliffe
Wickliffe is the nearest corner of Lake County to us, under 40 minutes from Parma. Lots of its houses are older than the folks living in them, and we work around that.
One discount per visit. Mention it when you book.
Wickliffe is boxed in by Euclid on one side and Willoughby on the other, with Willowick up top. There's nowhere left to grow. What it does have is age. The post office opened in 1843, and city hall lives in Coulby Mansion, a shipping magnate's house finished in 1915.
For us it's about 25 miles and 39 minutes from Parma, the shortest run of any Lake County town we cover. A morning call on a weekday stands a good chance of a visit that afternoon. Have the model number ready if you can find it.
Laundry down the basement stairs
Census data says the median Wickliffe house dates to 1957. Go down the stairs in one of those and there's the laundry. Washer by the old concrete tub, dryer next to it, floor drain somewhere underneath. The slab usually tilts toward that drain, which is great for water and lousy for a front-loader on its spin.
That setup has its own habits. A washer pumping into an old tub can overflow it if the tub drain is slow. Cast iron drains narrow with buildup over the decades. A dryer venting a long way to the outside wall clogs faster, too.
We bring the repair to the machine. Nothing has to come up the stairs unless it's truly done for. Our article on older homes and their appliances goes into wiring and plumbing quirks too.
Washer dancing across the slab? Grab a level and a wrench before you call anyone. Spinning the feet down to meet that sloped floor has saved plenty of folks a visit.

Water on the basement floor, step by step
Basement water has three or four possible sources, and only some of them are ours. Play detective for a few minutes first.
- Shut the supply valvesTwist both taps behind the washer shut. Puddle quit spreading? Then you've got a weeping hose or a tired valve, not a broken machine.
- Run a drain-only cycleStand by the tub while the washer pumps out. If the water rises over the rim, your house drain is the slowpoke. That's plumber territory.
- Feel under the frontWet under the door on a front-loader points to a torn boot or a clogged pump filter. Those two are the most common washer leaks we fix.
- Check the hosesOld black rubber hoses bulge before they burst. Braided steel ones run maybe twenty bucks a pair at the hardware store. Past five years, swap them.
More help on leaks is in washer repair, and if water shows up under the dishwasher instead, see a dishwasher that leaks.
Gas ranges and dryers in older kitchens
Houses from the fifties were often plumbed for gas, and plenty still cook and dry with it. These appliances last a long time. They also need a few parts that electric ones don't.
Burner clicks but will not light
Pasta water boiled over, right? Wait a day for the igniter to dry out. Still clicking with no flame after that, the igniter or its spark module is shot.
Gas oven never heats
You peek through the broiler drawer and see orange glow, no flame. A tired igniter can't pull enough current to open the valve. Swapping it is quick.
Gas dryer tumbles cold
Drum turns, air stays cool. Our first test is the igniter, and the valve coils get checked right behind it. A blown thermal fuse can look identical.
You smell gas
Get everyone out before touching a switch. From the sidewalk, phone the gas company or 911. We come once they clear it.

Wickliffe 44092 and its borders
- 44092Wickliffe, OH
Wickliffe homes use ZIP 44092. The western half of Willoughby Hills shares it, so tell us which city you're in when you book. We cover both.
The kitchen tap pours Lake Erie water, treated at the Aquarius plant run by Lake County. Willoughby and Eastlake drink the same.
Can you fix a washer in a Wickliffe basement without carrying it up?
Yes. We repair it where it stands. Only a machine that's beyond saving has to leave, and even then we can explain your options.
My basement floor is wet after a load. Is the washer broken?
Not always. Check whether the laundry tub or floor drain overflows during the drain cycle. If they're fine, we look at the hoses and the door boot next. The pump comes after that.
The ice maker line in our old kitchen runs through a saddle valve. Is that a problem?
It can be. Those clamp-on valves pierce the copper pipe and tend to clog or drip after some years. If your ice maker fills slowly, the valve may be the choke point. A plumber can swap it for a proper shutoff, and we handle the fridge side.
Do you repair gas dryers and ranges in older Wickliffe homes?
Yes. Igniters and gas valve coils are the usual parts, and we carry common ones. A gas smell is the utility's job first, so get outside and ring them before us.
Is Wickliffe within your service area?
Easily. We cover roughly 50 miles around Parma, and Wickliffe is only about 25 of them. On a clear road the drive takes 39 minutes or so.
Should I put a new front-loader on a sloped basement floor?
You can. Level it carefully, or set it on a pedestal or a sturdy platform that sits flat. A washer that rocks during spin wears its shocks and bearings much faster.
What does a repair cost in Wickliffe?
It depends on the part. You get the full price after diagnosis, before any work starts. Veterans and seniors save $30, and new customers save $20.
Street name and the machine are enough. Basement or kitchen, mention which. We phone back to pin down the hour.
