Appliance Repair in Avon Lake
Avon Lake is about 40 minutes west of our Parma base. Call before lunch and there's a fair chance a technician gets to you that same afternoon.
One discount per visit. Mention it when you book.
Out on the Lake Erie shore in the far northeast corner of Lorain County, Avon Lake sits between Bay Village and Sheffield Lake. The whole city uses a single ZIP code, 44012. Our van covers roughly 24 miles to get there from Parma.
Because of that drive, we'll ask a couple of things before booking. What brand is it, and what's it doing? A photo of the model tag (if you can reach it) is gold. With that the technician packs the likely part before leaving, and one trip can be enough.
Newer houses with appliances now at repair age
- 1989median year a home here was built
- 16.9%of homes are rented
- 44012one ZIP for the whole city
Census numbers put the typical Avon Lake house at 1989. So half the homes went up after that, many in two-story subdivisions. Plenty still have the builder's dishwasher and range, or the first set that replaced them. At that age it's usually a pump or a control board that quits first. The cabinet and the drum often have years left in them.
Lots of those floor plans moved the laundry upstairs, by the bedrooms. Handy, until it leaks. Then you don't get a puddle on concrete, you get a brown ring on the kitchen ceiling. A drain pan and braided steel hoses cost a lot less than drywall work.
About one home in six is rented. Renting? Give us the owner's number and we'll send them the quote before anything is opened.
Lake water and your ice maker
Avon Lake Regional Water pulls your supply out of Lake Erie through two intakes right here in town. Same utility sends water all the way down to the city of Medina. We couldn't find a published hardness number for it, so you won't get a made-up one from us.
Even lake water leaves a bit of mineral crust after enough years. It ends up on dishwasher spray arms, and inside that tiny valve feeding the ice maker. Cubes coming out small, or hollow in the middle? Usually that's the valve or an old filter. The freezer is fine. Our ice maker repair page explains what we test.
The filter is cheap, and twice a year is about right. Once it clogs, the dispenser dribbles and the ice maker sulks.

If the upstairs washer starts to leak
- Close both valvesTwo little handles, hot and cold, usually right behind the washer. Crank them clockwise till they won't go any further.
- See where it dripsWet under the door? That's most likely the rubber boot or the clamp around it. A puddle behind the machine is a hose or the drain line, once in a while the fill valve.
- Look at the ceiling belowA brown ring downstairs means it's been seeping for a while, not just since this morning. Tell us, because then we check the subfloor too.
- Photograph the tagInside the door rim on most front-loaders, on the back for a lot of top-loaders. Have it handy when you call and we'll pack the part.
Pumps and door boots get their own section on our washer repair page.
Dryer ducts in two-story homes
Upstairs laundry means a long duct. Usually it snakes through a wall, now and then straight out the roof. Long ducts clog faster. First hint? Towels that want a second cycle.
Before blaming the heater, step outside with the dryer running and feel the flap. Barely a puff means the duct's the issue. Strong warm air and still damp towels? Then it's a part inside the dryer, and that's our job. See dryer repair for what we check.
The second fridge in the garage
A spare fridge out in an unheated garage does odd things in winter. Its thermostat lives in the fresh food side. When the garage gets cold the thermostat figures all is well. So the compressor barely runs. Meanwhile the freezer on top warms up and the ice cream turns to soup.
Some models sell a garage kit, a small heater for the thermostat. If yours has none, a freezer made for garages is often the cheaper answer than repeated service calls.
Fixing a 20-year-old machine
Many appliances in 1990s and 2000s houses are on their second decade. Age alone doesn't decide it.
A washer or range from the 2000s with one failed part. Pumps and igniters for those models are still easy to find and not expensive.
A fridge with a sealed system leak, or a front-loader with worn drum bearings. When the quote climbs toward 50 percent of a replacement, you'll hear that from us.
Want to run the numbers yourself? The repair or replace guide has a simple rule of thumb.
Do you cover all of Avon Lake?
Yes. The city has a single ZIP code, 44012. Every street in it is on our list. Bay Village next door is covered too, and so are Avon and Westlake to the south.
How long is the drive from Parma to Avon Lake?
About 24 miles, roughly 40 minutes without traffic. A weekday morning call often turns into an afternoon visit.
Why do you ask for the model number first?
At this distance it matters. With the tag in hand we pack the matching pump or control board before the van leaves Parma, rather than ordering it after the diagnosis.
My Avon Lake fridge makes small ice cubes. What causes that?
Usually a clogged water filter or a weak inlet valve. Change the filter first. If the cubes stay small, the valve or a frozen fill tube is the likely cause. Both are quick fixes.
I rent my house. Can the owner approve the repair?
Sure. Give us the owner's name and phone number. They get the price before work starts, and you just let the technician in.
What will the repair cost?
The technician finds the fault first, then gives one number for parts and labor. Nothing is taken apart until you agree. Veterans and seniors get $30 off, a first visit gets $20 off, one discount per visit.
Add your street in 44012 and what the appliance is doing. A model tag photo helps us pack the right part.
We will call you shortly to confirm a time for your repair.
